Nasarawa State University, also known as NSUK, is a state-owned university located in Keffi, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The university was established in 2001, making it one of the youngest universities in Nigeria.
Prior to the establishment of Nasarawa State University, there was no state-owned university in Nasarawa State, and students had to travel to neighboring states to pursue higher education. This situation prompted the state government to establish a university in the state, in order to provide its citizens with access to quality education and to contribute to the development of the state.
In 1999, the government of Nasarawa State set up a committee to explore the feasibility of establishing a university in the state. The committee recommended the establishment of a university, and the government subsequently passed a bill establishing Nasarawa State University.
The university began academic activities in 2002, with an initial student population of about 1,000. Over the years, the university has grown in size and reputation, with a current student population of over 20,000 and a faculty of over 1,000 members.
NSUK has several faculties, including the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The university also has a medical school, which offers a degree in Medicine and Surgery.
NSUK has made significant contributions to the development of Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole, through research, innovation, and community engagement.
